Preliminary Research Task

Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing  is when you edit clips to make the better so you would cut clips and put the together and make your movie more interesting and entertain. Continuity Editing  consists of two category's one is tempral editing and the other is spatial editing . It is when you can slow things down or speed ed  them up this is what makes movies interesting because if there was no editing and clips wasn't cut and put together the movie would be plain boring. editors do this  to show us different scenes . older films was edited but not very good that's why they was not as good as the new movies because they would be less cuts in the film and it would stay on one scene for a long time. also in the old movies you can tell that the editing was poor because you can see the changes but with modern day films you can hardly notice.

This is a example of bad editing because you can see where the cut the film and put it together because the screen goes black this is not good and makes the movie not interesting.

This is a example of a newer film with more editing in there is a lot more cuts and scenes changes what makes it more interesting and make you know what is going on.

Tempral editing

This is when you connect shots to support and create a narrative .this can include flashbacks or flash forwards show the amount of time that passes and goes by.this can go from the start to finis or not . This maybe Linear progression or not.

Spatial cutting / editing

This editing creates unified space through the editing. shots from different angles & framing. Shot / reverse shots. also kuleshove effect . this also includes parallel editing.

180 degree rule

This is when you are filming , it is when the camera or cameras have to be on one side. so if there is two people on the stage  then  the cameras can not be on both sides because it don't make the feeling natural.so you have to have the camera or all the cameras on one side.
This is an example of  the 180 degree rule this rule was put in place because when you have a camera on the wrong side the feeling is not right it don't feel natural. This is really important because it is makes things realistic.

Revere's shot

This is when you have the camera on two people showing a duologue first the camera will show one person speaking to another the it will show the other person taking . this is why it is called reverse shot because it goes backwards and forwards to the different actors and keeps switching. this is mainly uses in conversations with two people to show who is talking to who.

Match on action

This is when the shot changes from a medium shot to close up to show something changing or happening. This  also shows something important is happening  because it zooms in to something . like if i was to open a book the view would change to zoom in to the book. Another example would be someone opening a door first it will show the person walk to the door ant the it will switch to zooming in to the match on action shot opening the door Handel.

This shot shows someone opening the door because in some movies this can make the scene tense when in a horror movie someone opening a door or even in a fighting movie when someone gets punched this shot shows us the action and what is happening.

overall i think that continuity editing is very important because it can make the difference of a movie been really good or not good because editing does allot and can make the movie interesting because if there was not any editing the movie would be on one scene and you wouldn't know whats going on. now with the new movies there is allot of editing so there is lots of scene switches so you get to know whats going on which gets you into the movie so if you compare and old movie to a new one the editing is much more and much better in a new movie. in the old movie you can notice where it has been edited and the new ones you can not tell as much but  it happens much more.

Final Decisions

Costumes

We have come to some of our final decisions for our movie we have come up with some ideas of an costume to make our characters look spooked and a little bit scary. We are going to try and make our character recognisable and make him re memorable. We are going to to make our characters costume dark , its going to be old ripped and all jagged we are going to make it muddy to make it look like he has came back from the dead also add blood to look like he has caused killings. We are going to have a unique mask that stand out so people can recognise it so when they see the image the can relate it to a movie.  We will use different colours in the movie to show the binary opposition so we will use bright colours to  represent good and dark colours to represent bad. Our mask is going to be unique because it will be laughing to show the audience that the person getting revenge is having a last laugh because his normal life was bad and before the bullies was laughing now its him.
This is a piece of evidence of what we could do this image shows good vs bad , because  the devil is bad and Jesus is good , it also show dark vs light one side shows bad dark evil red colour and the other half show good bright white colour.

Lighting

Our decisions for lighting are dark lighting we are going to do this because most people are scared of the dark and dark lighting will make the mood change and make the feeling dramatic. We are going  to use low key lighting to make a mood this will make the viewer not be able to see our characters face . we are going to change our contrast to show our binary opposition in light colours and dark colours. We will make flashes of light to make our scene tens and make it dramatic.
This is a image taken from a movie this is a shot of low key lighting this make a views think because you cant make out the face and you cant tell who it is . It makes you think something is going to happen but you don't know what it is .

Props

Our decisions for props have came to unique weapons and a unique mask to make our character to stand out and it would make our main character stand out from every other evil killer in any other horror movie. Our killers weapon will be a thin metal wire to strangle people or it will be a thick chain to hurt and whip the so they get touched. The chains could be used for sound so when the bullies here the sound of the chains and the jiggling will scare the bullies and bring back memories when they here the sound . Everything we do will be unique .

These are our two different types of weapons that might be used . these are unique because people have not used these as weapons before in horror movies and it relates to how out Innocent child died by strangled by a swing chain .

Mis-En-Scene

We have decided to use a normall day to day life scene to make it realistic but when our Innocent child dies it will be in a park playground. We are going to do this because it is a mixture because when you think of a park you think fun , kids , playing but we are going to change it into death , horror and scare . That will be a mix up and make it interesting because its unique and no one has done that before.

This is a image like we are going to shoot but we are going to take it at a dark time so it creates a scary mood because like when you walk through a park at night its like scary.

Narrative

Narrative is a person that explains a book or a movie to get it going  it tells you the what the story is based and what topic it is based around.
narrative is important because it explains what time the story is from and what it is based on .  For example once up on a time this shows that it is in the past. once up on a time has no evidence to back it up so people just believe that it is a fairy tale.Narrative is a very important part of the movie  because directors try to make the audience understand the concept of the movie. Narratives can be fictional and non-fictional.

This is evidence for a narrative beginning. this has been taken from Sherk this is make the reader or viewer believe that it has happened in the past and makes you think there is a long story behind it.

These are the three main narrative theory's.
Equilibrium is a normal start to a movie or story line its when someone would start and have a normall life and everything is plane and simple.

Disequilibrium is when everything changes in the move and things are not usual like a character would not have a normall life weird things would happen and the persons day to day life would change and things would happen.
New state of Equilibrium is when everything has a new start and its like everything has been refreshed in the movie like the character has started life over again and thong's have been reset.

I think the most important narrative theory for our film opening  to create an effect will be equilibrium because our movie is just an opening so it will be all normall it will be a school kid getting bullied and the coming halfway through the opening it will be disequilibrium because the boy will commute suicide and come back to life as a demon torch er the other guys that bullied him.

Movie : Shrek
Year :2001
Directors:Andrew Dmson ,Vicky Jenson
This is my evidence .

we done all done this questionnaire to gather information and find out what the audience want to see in a movie and introduction so that we could use them so we can get our introduction up to the viewers expectations and give them what they would prefer.

Final Cut Introduction

Today we recorded a blue screen shot we did this in our hall and we played a roll of aliens blowing up the white house. our aim is now to change the background to the white house. we was going to do this by editing it on final cut. we could not do that straight away because the was a problem with final cut wouldn't support our footage file so we have to convert the file in order to edit it on final cut this has delayed up by at least 15 - 20 minutes. To make sure this problem don't occur again we have to convert the file to support the file of final cut. when we over come our problem then we will use the apple computers to edit our background and make the clip look like we was at the white house. below i will show you what we are going to do but in our own way .

This image has been made by blue screen editing thisis because it was edited on final cut express.
