This is our first draft , this is the 1st atempt of what we done we did it quickly we are going to do this again and improve it .

prelimnary research task

Today in our preliminary research task we did our shot of opening a door me and farhan had a few problems with our speech we didn't know what to say . In the end we re done our task about 3 times we still didn't get to our final product we only done our testing ones. we have made an preliminary task now we have tyred    hard  but we could of done better we had to focus on a match on a action shot our match on action shot was when we pulled the handle to the door and when we shook hand.we

Treatment

Equilibrium Theory
Equilibrium – This we be start showing the characters normal live and how they live it so basically show what a normally day for each character would be so the audience gets a understands there background.

Disequilibrium – This is when the climax happens and the victim of the bullies gets killed and everything becomes unusual and the victim dead body is possessed by a demon which comes to kill the bullies changing their life.
New state – This when the killer or demon gets killed by the last remaining bully and everything goes back to normal but in a new way and a new order so everything would be different also changing the characters life and personality.

Setting
The setting of our movie will firstly start off in a classroom of our school because our movie is based on bullies and their victim and the best place bullying mostly happens. We have done this in school so our characters will be school students and it will be very realistic. The second location to out movie will be on the roads/streets to show the victims life so basically his day to day bases life his way to school and the way to his home. The third setting will be the park which will be the main area of the movie will be based on because that’s where the murder of the victims happens and that the dis-equilibrium.

Protagonist and Antagonist
The protagonist is the the good guy in the movie for example like the Batman he is always good mainly the main character who we follow throughout the movie. The antagonist is the bad guy who always tries to stop the protagonist for example like the Joker we also follow him through the movie but not as much as the protagonist. For example like in our movie Kallam is the protagonist because we follow him through out the movie he is the good guy but he also turns bad when he gets his revenge on the bullies.the antagonist is the bullies we see them in most of the scenes with kallam. but after wards they reform so this makes kallam the protagonist and the antagonist because kallam does not forgive them for what they did.

Three act structure
· Set up – The set up is just showing the characters normal life and what bullying can do if you can take it too far they also show the disadvantage of bullying and what it does to people.
· Set back – The set back will be the victim accidentally gets killed by the bullies who comes back to avenge his death as a demon, trying to kill the bullies one by one but gets carried away and takes it to far and become the bad guy.

· Resolution – One of the bullies kills the demon by with the body of the victims by some sort of holy way that he had learnt they used to do in the past leaving one of the bullies to survive.

Character Type
Our character types are very confusing because first we have a hero then we have a anti hero after that the bully turns into a hero.

Binary Oopposition
The binary opposition will be something that’s gives the audience a good understanding what is happening in the movie and the reason behind it so for example if you look at kids vs the geeky weak kid and this will then be simplified down to powerful vs weak by the audience then therefore creating the main binary opposition for our movie. Good vs Bad because it is the bullies vs the victim and at the ned we will see what happens and who wins.

Our Characters
· Ehsham who is the intimidating bully who overshadows Kallam in size and is physically intimidating.· Kashif who follows the other bullies and acts like one of them trying to be big and powerful but is weak but still bullies Kallam.· Farhan looks weak and small but is the main bully or gang leader and he may not be intimidating in size but is a fighter.· Kallam same high as Farhan and not very frightening, much more weak making him an easy target and the victim.

Preliminary Research Task

Continuity Editing

Continuity Editing  is when you edit clips to make the better so you would cut clips and put the together and make your movie more interesting and entertain. Continuity Editing  consists of two category's one is tempral editing and the other is spatial editing . It is when you can slow things down or speed ed  them up this is what makes movies interesting because if there was no editing and clips wasn't cut and put together the movie would be plain boring. editors do this  to show us different scenes . older films was edited but not very good that's why they was not as good as the new movies because they would be less cuts in the film and it would stay on one scene for a long time. also in the old movies you can tell that the editing was poor because you can see the changes but with modern day films you can hardly notice.

This is a example of bad editing because you can see where the cut the film and put it together because the screen goes black this is not good and makes the movie not interesting.

This is a example of a newer film with more editing in there is a lot more cuts and scenes changes what makes it more interesting and make you know what is going on.

Tempral editing

This is when you connect shots to support and create a narrative .this can include flashbacks or flash forwards show the amount of time that passes and goes by.this can go from the start to finis or not . This maybe Linear progression or not.

Spatial cutting / editing

This editing creates unified space through the editing. shots from different angles & framing. Shot / reverse shots. also kuleshove effect . this also includes parallel editing.

180 degree rule

This is when you are filming , it is when the camera or cameras have to be on one side. so if there is two people on the stage  then  the cameras can not be on both sides because it don't make the feeling natural.so you have to have the camera or all the cameras on one side.
This is an example of  the 180 degree rule this rule was put in place because when you have a camera on the wrong side the feeling is not right it don't feel natural. This is really important because it is makes things realistic.

Revere's shot

This is when you have the camera on two people showing a duologue first the camera will show one person speaking to another the it will show the other person taking . this is why it is called reverse shot because it goes backwards and forwards to the different actors and keeps switching. this is mainly uses in conversations with two people to show who is talking to who.

Match on action

This is when the shot changes from a medium shot to close up to show something changing or happening. This  also shows something important is happening  because it zooms in to something . like if i was to open a book the view would change to zoom in to the book. Another example would be someone opening a door first it will show the person walk to the door ant the it will switch to zooming in to the match on action shot opening the door Handel.

This shot shows someone opening the door because in some movies this can make the scene tense when in a horror movie someone opening a door or even in a fighting movie when someone gets punched this shot shows us the action and what is happening.

overall i think that continuity editing is very important because it can make the difference of a movie been really good or not good because editing does allot and can make the movie interesting because if there was not any editing the movie would be on one scene and you wouldn't know whats going on. now with the new movies there is allot of editing so there is lots of scene switches so you get to know whats going on which gets you into the movie so if you compare and old movie to a new one the editing is much more and much better in a new movie. in the old movie you can notice where it has been edited and the new ones you can not tell as much but  it happens much more.

Final Decisions

Costumes

We have come to some of our final decisions for our movie we have come up with some ideas of an costume to make our characters look spooked and a little bit scary. We are going to try and make our character recognisable and make him re memorable. We are going to to make our characters costume dark , its going to be old ripped and all jagged we are going to make it muddy to make it look like he has came back from the dead also add blood to look like he has caused killings. We are going to have a unique mask that stand out so people can recognise it so when they see the image the can relate it to a movie.  We will use different colours in the movie to show the binary opposition so we will use bright colours to  represent good and dark colours to represent bad. Our mask is going to be unique because it will be laughing to show the audience that the person getting revenge is having a last laugh because his normal life was bad and before the bullies was laughing now its him.
This is a piece of evidence of what we could do this image shows good vs bad , because  the devil is bad and Jesus is good , it also show dark vs light one side shows bad dark evil red colour and the other half show good bright white colour.

Lighting

Our decisions for lighting are dark lighting we are going to do this because most people are scared of the dark and dark lighting will make the mood change and make the feeling dramatic. We are going  to use low key lighting to make a mood this will make the viewer not be able to see our characters face . we are going to change our contrast to show our binary opposition in light colours and dark colours. We will make flashes of light to make our scene tens and make it dramatic.
This is a image taken from a movie this is a shot of low key lighting this make a views think because you cant make out the face and you cant tell who it is . It makes you think something is going to happen but you don't know what it is .

Props

Our decisions for props have came to unique weapons and a unique mask to make our character to stand out and it would make our main character stand out from every other evil killer in any other horror movie. Our killers weapon will be a thin metal wire to strangle people or it will be a thick chain to hurt and whip the so they get touched. The chains could be used for sound so when the bullies here the sound of the chains and the jiggling will scare the bullies and bring back memories when they here the sound . Everything we do will be unique .

These are our two different types of weapons that might be used . these are unique because people have not used these as weapons before in horror movies and it relates to how out Innocent child died by strangled by a swing chain .

Mis-En-Scene

We have decided to use a normall day to day life scene to make it realistic but when our Innocent child dies it will be in a park playground. We are going to do this because it is a mixture because when you think of a park you think fun , kids , playing but we are going to change it into death , horror and scare . That will be a mix up and make it interesting because its unique and no one has done that before.

This is a image like we are going to shoot but we are going to take it at a dark time so it creates a scary mood because like when you walk through a park at night its like scary.

Narrative

Narrative is a person that explains a book or a movie to get it going  it tells you the what the story is based and what topic it is based around.
narrative is important because it explains what time the story is from and what it is based on .  For example once up on a time this shows that it is in the past. once up on a time has no evidence to back it up so people just believe that it is a fairy tale.Narrative is a very important part of the movie  because directors try to make the audience understand the concept of the movie. Narratives can be fictional and non-fictional.

This is evidence for a narrative beginning. this has been taken from Sherk this is make the reader or viewer believe that it has happened in the past and makes you think there is a long story behind it.

These are the three main narrative theory's.
Equilibrium is a normal start to a movie or story line its when someone would start and have a normall life and everything is plane and simple.

Disequilibrium is when everything changes in the move and things are not usual like a character would not have a normall life weird things would happen and the persons day to day life would change and things would happen.
New state of Equilibrium is when everything has a new start and its like everything has been refreshed in the movie like the character has started life over again and thong's have been reset.

I think the most important narrative theory for our film opening  to create an effect will be equilibrium because our movie is just an opening so it will be all normall it will be a school kid getting bullied and the coming halfway through the opening it will be disequilibrium because the boy will commute suicide and come back to life as a demon torch er the other guys that bullied him.

Movie : Shrek
Year :2001
Directors:Andrew Dmson ,Vicky Jenson
This is my evidence .

Primary Research

What kind of killer are your scared of in a horror movie?

we found out that  paranormal acivity and serial killer are the best so now that we have got this information and we know what people would prefer we are going to use the paranormal activity killer.

What setting is the scariest?
we asked this question because we wanted to know what setting for our scene would be best and what the viewer would want to see in our movie and we found out that graveyard would be the most scariest setting for our horror movie.

What sub-genre so you like combined with genre?
we asked this question because we wanted to know what to combine our horror movie with because horror is one of the most popular and then we thort we would get ideas from the viewers what they would prefer to be combined as a sub genre.

What serial killer do you prefer?

we asked this question because we wanted the audiences ideas on what would make the best killer so we could base our introduction along them lines so the viewers like it.

Do you like horror movies?

we done all done this questionnaire to gather information and find out what the audience want to see in a movie and introduction so that we could use them so we can get our introduction up to the viewers expectations and give them what they would prefer.

Final Cut Introduction

Today we recorded a blue screen shot we did this in our hall and we played a roll of aliens blowing up the white house. our aim is now to change the background to the white house. we was going to do this by editing it on final cut. we could not do that straight away because the was a problem with final cut wouldn't support our footage file so we have to convert the file in order to edit it on final cut this has delayed up by at least 15 - 20 minutes. To make sure this problem don't occur again we have to convert the file to support the file of final cut. when we over come our problem then we will use the apple computers to edit our background and make the clip look like we was at the white house. below i will show you what we are going to do but in our own way .

This image has been made by blue screen editing thisis because it was edited on final cut express.

Audience Research Task

Audience research is very important because you find out what people want to watch and what type of genre they are into and what genre is most popular.you would do audience research because you would want loads of people to talk about your movie and make it popular so you can make a good profit. It is also good so you know what age group fit in to a certain category so you can aim your movie at a certain age group. This is called demographics this is when you categorise a audience by their age or even a female film or even a film for males. This is stereotyping because if it is about shopping and nice men it would be aimed at girls and if it was about girls and cars it would be aimed at boys that's stereotyping people all film makers do this.

Three main theory's: These are the 3 theory's that I think are the main ones.

Reception analysis this is when the producer makes a movie and it has a different concept to every movie so people have different opinions some people might like it and some people might  dislike it. so everyone has their own point of view.

Hypodermic needle this is the theory that suggests the media is capable of mass manipulation. This is based on the assumption that the audience believes what they see so the maker of the movie in paranormal activity is trying to convince people .The audience that demons  actually exist to scare them so they get hooked in the movie and want to keep watching so they can make money for the different films.

Two step flow

This is the theory when someone watches a movie and then goes and tells another person that is why it is called a two step theory because it involves two people. this theory can keep on going because it goes from one person to another and it can last forever. This happens allot sometimes you don't even realise because you say i watched this movie and it was good this is a two step theory. This is mouth of word .

Bibliography this is when you have all the details about a book like who made it , when it was made and what it is about.

Filmography this tells you about the film and when its made , who made it and what its about.

Wednesday 19 October 2011

The main theme of our film opening is that there will be a group or also known as a gang of bullies who bully a shy, nerdy boy. Then it goes to far which make the victim of the bully’s commits suicide because of all the struggles he goes through, but he comes back to live as demon but in other word possessed. He then makes it his goal to get revenge on those who made fun of him and goes to the extreme as he decides to kill them all one by one.
The main character is Kallam is very believable as he is a class geek who keeps his head in his books and is very shy around the rest of the people in the class who also dislike him for his awkwardness.

Kallam’s main goals were trying to succeed in his exams as a geeky teenage but due to killing himself and coming back his main goal is to get his revenge. Kashif, Ehsham and Farhan are the bullies who have made his life a living hell but regret it all. They soon realize what they have done to Kallam and how his family feels depressed and sad. The bullies also realize the Kallam is back because of the fact one of the bullies die’s a few days later after Kallam’s death. Their main goal turns into to stop Kallam in his track before he succeeds in his goal.

At stake are the bully’s lives and their families feeling the same way as they made Kallams family feel and they try all their best to stop him.

The film takes place in a school and in a graveyard where we take Kallam to make him scared and in the school where we see him getting bullied and outside of the school on the journey home.

We have created 4 interesting characters:

· Ehsham who is the intimidating bully who overshadows Kallam in size and is physically intimidating.

· Kashif who follows the other bullies and acts like one of them trying to be big and powerful but is weak but still bullies Kallam.

· Farhan looks weak and small but is the main bully or gang leader and he may not be intimidating in size but for sure is a fighter.

· Kallam same high as Farhan and not very frightening either, looks nerdy but due to bullying is frighten and flinches a lot around people.

Mood Board

The mood board shows the concepts and shows what most things people would expect from a horror genre. Our key concepts are adrenaline rushing,  gruesome, kidnapping, and physical violence. We have picked these concepts because they all of these concepts relate  to horror. Our mood shows all of these concepts the lady by the wanted poster connotes that their is going to be kidnapping. We have shown adrenaline rush with the two people fighting by the grave yard. Also we have shown an gruesome we have done this putting blood drops all over our mood board we have put a man on death row this establishes their is some signs or torture.  Lightning is not very common in many horror movies in the modern day but in the 1990's it was and it made people jump at the sound of it because it would normally be random so that's why it is on our mood board.straight up to people but the concepts are there but you have to concentrate to understand them for example the two girls on the left hand side of the mood board .

This image is taken from the mood board it shows some one been kidnapped this is horror because it is in black and white it  shows fear and it looks bad.

Genre Recearch Task

Genre is something that you can use to section a movie out. It is like a category for example there is different types of movies like horror , action and comedy which is the same as sport because there is different types of sport like football , cricket and rugby.

The advantages of genre .
  • Genre offers you a reassurance in a uncontrollable world.
  • It offers a set of easily recognisable conventions like a language.
  • It was seen as a strategy used by producers to ensure audience identification and reduce the risk of a film failing.
  • Genre can be seen as a way of working through importance myths and fears.
  • This shows how genre is not static but is constantly re-negotiated often between industry and audience.
The disadvantages of genre.

  • We should be understanding how a film text functions in relation to genre rather than being defined by them.
  • We should acknowledge  that a genre features will depend on the audience understanding.
The genre  of our movie is horror and we  have chose this because we think it will be entertaining and we think it will be hard to do and it will be a task. The conventions would be to be in a dark scary place with something bad happening or going to happen to someone.
We have also chose this because it is one of the most popular genres . most people enjoy horror because it gives you a thrill it gets you hooked and you want to keep watching till the end so you know what happens it keeps you in your seat and get scared.
our horror introduction connotes to child's play because it will involve a serial killer and it will be a scary as possible.

Child's Play:
Year :1988

Director: Tom Holland

This is a very close example to our chosen introduction because it involves a serial killer and it will involve blood and killings. In our introduction we will have good people and one villain this connotes to shields play  because it has one bad person and Innocent people get killed.

Codes and Conventions of Film Openings

In a film opening the codes and conventions that you would expect would be technical codes this would be because they are mainly made on the computer with all of the subtitles rolling down the screen and all of the colours and movements are made by computerised technology. Some film openings use technical and symbolic codes .Symbolic codes are things like body language , objects , settings clothing and colour. Below i will post a link of a film opening which uses technical codes and symbolic codes.

This film opening has technical codes because of the edited writing  the way it appears on the screen when the clouds come.It is also symbolic because the colouring is black and white also because body language and props there is people , a train and horses.
The title is edited because it is a Fancy font .

This is a example of technical codes because of the title and its symbolic code because there is a person in the image what have body language and facial expressions.

The genre of this movie would be adventure because it is about cowboys and they are on horses and trains and they are running around in a deserted place just with loads of people
The conventions of this opening would be action because it is like something big is going on but we don't know what it is all of the people with guns , people on trains and horses make the opening build up tension so you want to watch the whole film.
The opening also makes us expect that something has gone wrong and people are escaping and some people are getting saved and they are saving a horse from the water Things you would expect to see in a film opening are titles , the main character , subtitles about the film.

In a film opening you would expect titles rolling down I have seen this in the Incredible Hulk.

This a piece of evidence to back up my point about the titles in the opening scene this is a image of the titles int the Incredible hulk.

Scream 4 Poster

The genre of this movie is that it is horror we know this because on the poster there is  a gost presented. The three codes would be dark lighting thats low key lighting, and the mask and the way the mask is behind the people like it is going to get them. Three conventions of this movie would be blood, violence and murder. The signifyer of this movie would be the way the poster is layed out.with the people looking scared like the gost is after them or haunghting them. The detonative levels are the smoke coming from the backgroumfd what make it look scarey  and also the name scream that make it a horror because it sound frightening. The poster shows like a team looking for the ghost. This poster also shows the audience that there is a killer and main character who may die or survive but they know there will be violence and blood. This also shows that this movie will be restricted to a certain age group because of the violence it contains. The age group would be 18 and over.

Film Opening Analysis

Final destination 5 Intro

The genre of this movie is horror and thriller we know this because the is blood on the opening title and there is loads of darkness and they is skeletons and killing on the introduction with weapons.
The technical codes would be the computerised x-ray vision showing all the skeletons and inside of everything. They have done this so we don't recognise the people that are getting killed and to show that is horror. They have done this so we don't get the real picture until we watch the full movie. They have also made it 3D so it is like you are there .
They key signifier would be that they have made realistic sound effects so it is like everything is real a example would be when the knife stabs the skeleton you can hear the sound of the knife.
The into makes us expect that there is loads of gruesome things happening , loads of blood and Gore. we think this because they is loads of skeletons and everything is in x-ray vision and at the beginning blood comes from the title. I would expect it to be entertaining and scary with different ways of killings.
The target audience would be strictly 16 and over because it would be violence and killings in the movie and people under 16 could get scared.

Iron man

The genre of this movie would be action and adventure because of the theme tune its like memorable and it repeats itself.
The technical codes for this intro would be all of the background behind the writing it has all been computerised all the cogs and things behind spinning and moving around and connecting.
The words and colours signify super hero's because super man and his red cloak etc.also the sound its beat is adventurous and its like a tappety beat its re memorable and repeat its self like a superhero tune.
You would expect from this intro for it to be in the future and you would expect loads of actions because of the colours.
The target audience would be for 12 plus because there is abit of violence and it is entertaining.

The incredibles

The genre of this film would be action and adventure because there is loads of fighting with good guys and villains we know this because at the start the good guys rip there clothes and there is the incredibles sign there.
This intro is mainly technical codes because it is all edited and it is all animation. It is all in colour and like Fancy writing .
The key signifier would be red because red can show super hero's colours or it can show evil and the whole film is about hero's and villains.it can also show fighting . The sound track would be adventure and action it has like a jazzy rhythm.
The sequence would make you expect that a family re super hero's with super powers that work as a team to save something and they are fighting evil people and are protecting something we know this because of the images.
The target audience would be PG for children because it is funny and all little kids story's are about bad guys and good guys and the colouring is for young people.

First Post

My group name : DIgital Sensations.

The people in my group:
Farhan Mohammed
Kallam Hussain
Esham Javed
Kashif Zaman

The genre is giong to be horror.
The genre of the Rise of the planet apes is action  we know this because there is loads of explosions and shooting.and running around.
The convention of an action movie would be the code of explosions , chases , fights because it would be exiting.
The signifier of this image would be the main ape with his arm up. That is a sign that he is powerful and he is stong and is the leader , and has strength because he is showing his strength..The ape is copying the statue of liberty because he is frree and wants to show his frredom.
The detonative level is loads of apes with one leader  at the front showing they are taking over because the city is behind them also because the city is all ruind and theyy is fire on the bridge.
This connotes that the apes have taken over and caused destruction to the city that is behind them and now they will continue to destruct and take over the world.
The audience would be for young teenagers and upwards because it is funny and intreeging and youget hgooked into the movie and there is loads of action in there and thats what teenagers like.
